3G iPhone Set To Launch at WWDC on June 9th

Over at Gizmodo, they have just posted that ‘people in the know’ have let it slip that the launch date for the good ‘ol 3G iPhone is June 9th…

The announcement is set to happen at the WWDC Keynote in San Fran!

Almost immediately after launch, the 3G iPhone is rumored to go direct to sale. No waiting here, announcement… and into the stores! Worldwide availability is also expected shortly thereafter. Canadians, Australians, Greeks… they’re all jonesing for the iPhone and the time could be a heck of a lot sooner than we thought.

One thing is for sure, carrier announcements have been coming in fast and furious from around the world lately. Carriers all want to sell the iPhone, and it looks like Apple wants to give it to them as fast as they possibly can. Get the iPhones out, c’mon, go, go! Canada? Yep, here you go… Italy, here you go…

It has also been reported from another source that the 3G iPhone will no longer be available at a fixed price point. With all of these new countries and carriers getting involved, I’m not that surprised. The new iPhone will apparently bring some ‘new sales policies’ to the table, although I have no idea what those are at the moment.

3G iPhone release date predictions?

Come on, guys. Have your best shot at it! There’s been a flood of news lately surrounding the mysterious new iPhone with 3G, with even Uncle Walt chiming in. Our guess it that the second generation iPhone will be on sale in stores on June 30th. Why? They won’t launch the new iPhone without the 2.0 software, and 2.0 is slated for "late June". Also, we wouldn’t bet on seeing it before WWDC, and knowing Apple, they’re going to wait ’till the last minute to ship so they can work the kinks out. Where do you come in? Well, we might be wrong. If we are, we’re going to buy you a brand new second generation iPhone if you predict the right release date. If multiple people pick the exact release date then we’ll pick one of them at random.

Clarification: we are talking about the day you can physically wait in line at an Apple store and buy the second generation iPhone. Not the day ads appear on TV, not the day it’s announced, the day you can buy a brand spankin’ new second generation iPhone.

It seems to be official. The second generation 3g iPhone has a release date. 9th June. That means Apple is going to sell the iPhone straight after their WWDC in June.

If all this is true, it also means that carriers around the world are working at full power to integrate their iPhone offers and plans in their current inventory. With so many companies announcing partnerships with Apple to sell the iPhone, we will have an iPhone buying frenzy around the world.

US customers will be the first to buy the new device right after WWDC, but people say all the other countries are going to follow less than 10 days after. That’s good news folks. Better start those lines and pre-orders. We’re not going to wait until later this year to get the iPhone2.
